Hayden Buckley might be an unfamiliar name, even among the most fervent golf fans.

However, that’s not the case at the Club at Gateway, where Buckley has been a member for the last two years and names Fort Myers as his home on his social media accounts.

On the second day of the US Open, the PGA Tour rookie is making a big splash, finishing the first day of the event tied for seventh surrounded by names like Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. He is on pace to make the cut and play throughout the weekend at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

Here are five things to know about the Fort Myers resident:

1. Growing up in Mississippi, Buckley only began devoting his attention to golf in his junior year of high school. He had been more interested in baseball — the sport his father played at Ole Miss.

“I was so bad at golf at golf in high school,” Buckley said in a Golf.com interview. “I really was. I wasn’t naturally talented like these other guys. I think if I made it, a lot of other people can.”
