Louisville basketball legend opens new court in Shively

University of Louisville basketball legend Angel McCoughtry, along with the help of adidas, officially opened a renovated basketball court in Shively Park on Friday. “This court is here forever, so, this is really cool,” McCoughtry said.”We watch the NBA players do it all the time,” McCoughtry said. “Melo (Carmelo Anthony), Donovan (Mitchell). I was like, ‘You know what? I want to do one too.’ So I asked adidas, and they were like, ‘You know what? We’re going to do this.'”And that’s exactly what adidas did — helping McCoughtry come up with a court with a special design. “I said, ‘I want to put some emotion behind it, some inspiration,'” McCoughtry said. “So we took an Olympic picture that I had with my hands up. And the muralist, she really captured the element of it.”Many people were on hand for the official unveiling, including her former coach at UofL, Jeff Walz. “It’s just leaving another lasting impression of what Angel McCoughtry really is as a person,” Walz said. “It’s not just the basketball player. She’s way, way beyond that. And I’m honored to call her a friend.”Some of Walz’s current players made the trip to Shively as well to show support for the former Cardinal.”It just shows the family that we are,” said Louisville guard Mykasa Robinson. “Even if we didn’t play with Angel, we all respect each other and we all love each other. It’s a family here.”Click on the video above for more.
