Pitt Football Receives Commitment from 2023 3-Star RB Montravius Lloyd

Adding a running back was one of the top priorities for Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class, and they were able to accomplish that.

On a busy Saturday of commitments, Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers received a commitment from three-star running back Montravius Lloyd from Lakewood High School in Saint Petersburg, Florida. Credit assistant coach Cory Sanders as the lead recruiter of Lloyd.

Before deciding on Pitt, the 6-foot, 205-pound back also held offers from Arizona, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, South Florida, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

As he was boarding his plane to head back to Florida, Lloyd spoke quickly with Pittsburgh Sports Now about his decision to join Pitt’s Class of 2023.

“I made the decision after spending time here and being around the Pitt coaches and just seeing the city of Pittsburgh,” said Lloyd. “I kind of knew before I got here that I could be committing to Pitt this weekend. Reason for that was the relationship that I have with Coach Sanders and Coach (Andre) Powell. The coaching staff was very excited today when I told them my decision.”

Some schools, such as Florida State were recruiting Lloyd to play both sides of the ball, in particular at safety, but Pitt has him penciled in as a running back. When asked to describe himself as a back and his playing style, Lloyd told PSN that, “I’m an all-around back.”

When reviewing their film, Lloyd is a similar player and boasts a similar skillset to 2022 running back Jordaan Bailey, who signed with Pitt last year but wasn’t able to qualify academically.

Lloyd becomes the first running back in Pitt’s Class of 2023 and it wouldn’t be surprising if they added another one before Signing Day in December or February. In their last two recruiting classes, Pitt signed but ended up losing both Bailey (academics) and Malik Newton (health reasons), so Pitt is looking to restock their depth at running back.
