PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour played host to four other teams in a 7 vs. 7 tournament and Hog Wars competition Friday evening at George Byrer Field at BC Bank Park.

Joining the Colts were Tygarts Valley, Preston, Trinity and traditional Class A powerhouse Doddridge County.

The squads faced off with each other in five rounds of action on the turf field.

The linemen from each squad, meanwhile, competed in Hog ​​Wars. Events included 180-pound log bench for reps, reverse overhead medicine ball toss, farmer walk relay, kneeling medicine ball toss, truck push, truck tire toss and the hog pen obstacle course.

High school teams around the state are in the midst of the three-week practice period.

The high school football regular season begins on Aug. 26 for most teams.

Philip Barbour will open the season at home against Big 10 Conference rival Grafton, while Tygarts Valley visits Valley-Wetzel in its opener.
