Carroll takes on the toughest of the tough on the tennis court for Wachusett

HOLDEN — Impact players in any sport can make all the difference when it comes to outcome. One Wachusett Regional High student-athlete who has fit that role and done so throughout his high school career is senior captain Ryan Carroll. Carroll has poured his heart and soul into leading the boys’ tennis team to successful seasons over his time as a Mountaineer.

He has competed at the No. 1 position in singles for all three years on the team and is in his second year as captain. As if that weren’t enough, he has earned the respect of teammates and coaches, with head coach Tony Brissette referring to him as “a pleasure to coach and most importantly a quality person.”

“Ryan has a very positive attitude in everything he does. He works hard at his game,” said Brissette of his senior team leader. “He plays year-round and plays against some tough opponents in the offseason. His ground strokes are very good, and his serve is good. He’s one of the best players I’ve coached here.”

“Coach Brissette has been terrific. He’s let me practice with the team going back to eighth grade, which allowed me to get comfortable with the game and the team,” Carroll said. “I’ve started pretty much every match since I was a freshman. That’s all you can really ask for, being given the chance to play.”
