Chester girls basketball star Allison Bono shines in summer AAU play

WALLKILL – Allison Bono is an accomplished basketball player, running the offense for Chester Academy and producing more than 1,000 points for her career thus far.

But the unfair rap on players like Bono is that they dominate the competition against the smaller schools that they play and may not be up to the standards of players who compete for larger schools.

With AAU summer travel ball and the Mid-Hudson select squad headed for the Summer Hoops Festival this week, Bono is seeking to dispel those notions.

“I didn’t get a chance to play with or against some of these players because I go to a small school,” Bono said of her newest teammates, many who play for Class AA and A schools. “There’s some really good talent. We’re all just trying to get to know each other and each other’s styles of playing.”

The large schools tend to draw the most attention, Bono acknowledges, so she’s glad she has the opportunity to “represent the small schools and show there’s talent at the smaller schools as well.”
