Field Hockey to Play Seven at Home in 2022


TROY, NY – Under the tutelage of second-year head coach Bre Lowe, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey program begins its 45th season on Wednesday, September 1, when the Engineers host Hartwick College at Harkness Field. Rensselaer plays 17 regular season games in 2022, including seven at home.

Highlights/notables of the 2022 season schedule include:

  • Rensselaer plays seven home games
  • Nine games in September and eight in October
    • Four home games in October
  • Ten non-league contests
  • Seven of the final 10 are against Liberty League opponents
  • Play six games on Saturdays, five on Sunday, two on Friday and one on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Season and home opener vs. Hartwick on first day allowed by the NCAA
    • All home games at Harkness Field
      • Engineers and Hawks have played 43 times with Hartwick holding 23-19-1 edge in all-time series
  • Host Geneseo on September 3 at 11am
    • Just third matchup between two schools and first since 2015
      • RPI leads series 3-1, with Knights winning last year, 3-2 in OT
  • Open season-long, five-game road trip on September 6 at Hamilton (6pm)
    • RPI’s head coach Bre Lowe was an assistant for the Continentals before being hired in March of 2020
  • Head to SUNY Brockport (Sept. 10), Keystone (Sept. 11), Castleton (Sept. 14) and Montclair State (Sept. 18)
    • Lowe’s first career head coaching came against the Spartans last year
  • First Liberty League game is September 24 vs. Vassar at 1pm
    • RPI leads all-time series 22-18-1
    • Snapped four-game losing streak last year in Poughkeepsie, 1-0
  • Non-league trip to St. John Fisher the following day
    • Engineers lead all-time series 3-1
  • October opens with short trip to area-rival Union (Oct. 1)
    • Dutchwomen own narrow 25-24 edge in all-time series
    • RPI won last year, 2-1
  • Host Ithaca for Reunion & Homecoming Weekend (Oct. 8)
    • Engineers lead all-time series 3-2
  • Short trip to Sage College in penultimate non-league game (Oct. 10)
  • Four straight league games follow, split evenly home and away
    • Host William Smith (Oct. 14), before traveling to Rochester (Oct. 16)
    • Welcome St. Lawrence to Troy (Oct. 21), before heading to Skidmore (Oct. 23)
  • Regular season finale on October 29 vs. Oneonta (1pm)
    • Rensselaer leads the all-time series 21-10
