Can Iowa State replace New York Jets’ running back Breece Hall?

AMES — Matt Campbell knows running backs.

From David Fluellen and Kareem Hunt at Toledo to David Montgomery and Breece Hall at Iowa State, the seventh-year Cyclones coach has a talent for finding, recruiting and developing elite talent in the backfield.

When one NFL-caliber player left, another was already on the roster to replace him.

He, and Iowa State, are again faced with that task.

With Hall a member of the New York Jets after being selected in the second round of this spring’s NFL Draft, Iowa State is looking for its next highlight-reel and touchdown-producing star at running back.

“Losing Breece is never good, it’s not cool,” offensive coordinator Tom Manning said, “but obviously Jirehl (Brock) has done a lot of things here. Has played a lot of football. Eli Sanders, Deon Silas, Cartevious Norton, Blaze Doxzon, we certainly feel like there are a lot of guys in that room that can do a lot of things, and maybe some different things.
