In the case of inclement weather, specifically lightning in the area, the team will move its scrimmage indoors, which will make the event closed to the public.
Second-year head coach Blake Anderson will run his team through roughly a two-hour scrimmage and is looking forward to watching his players compete in a live setting.
“We’ve got a lot of guys that we need to see tackle live,” said Anderson. “Everything for the most part has been quick whistle to this point. We need to see big bodies push on each other. We need to see guys in space tackle to the ground. With the ones, we have a good idea what they can do , but there are a lot of twos and threes that are in the mix and jockeying for position, and we need to find out what they can do without coaches right there telling them exactly what to do every snap. It will be a good test for us. We’ll probably have 65 or 70 snaps with each group and hopefully, the weather holds up where we can get that and get a good look at everybody.”
Anderson also said the scrimmage will be dedicated to open-field scenarios – probably between the 30-yard lines – with normal down and distance, along with third downs. They will not spend time inside the 10-yard line.
Utah State will also hold an open scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 2 pm, as part of its Family Football Fun Day.
Utah State will open the 2022 season on Saturday, Aug. 27, when it hosts Connecticut at 2 pm, in a game that will be nationally televised on Fox Sports 1. USU then plays at Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 3, and hosts Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 10, before beginning MW play at home against UNLV on Saturday, Sept. 24, in a game that will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network at 5 pm
