Volleyball Welcomes Six for Upcoming Season


WASHINGTON – Katie Reifert has announced the addition of six student-athletes to the 2022 GW volleyball roster as part of her first recruiting class since being named head coach in December.

Grace Allread, Penelope Hiepler, Maeve LoughranBrittany Meyers, Tierra Porter spirit Sydney Stewart will don the Buff & Blue this fall, joining a team that features seven returning student-athletes.

“I am excited to welcome this talented group of newcomers to the GW volleyball family,” said Reifert.

“This class will add tremendous depth and versatility to a number of positions, which will allow us to compete at a high level on a daily basis. In addition to being accomplished athletes, these student-athletes are all great people who I know will have a positive impact on the culture and growth of our program.”

The six incoming members will also join Dilara Elmacioglu, Olivia Harrison spirit Amina Robinsonwho committed to the program last fall.

Grace Allread | Sets | 5-9 | Sylvan Lake, Mich. | Liberty

Played one year at Liberty and was a four-year team captain in high school. Named to PrepVolleyball Frosh 59 and the 2020 All-Oakland County Dream Team. Was a three-time All-Region selection, a four-time All-League honoree and a two-time All-State selection. Named to PrepVolleyball Soph 79. Tallied over 2,500 career assists, qualifying for MHSAA record book. Helped her team to a district title in 2019. Played for Legacy Volleyball Club. Named to PrepVolleyball 2021 watch list, the 2019 and 2020 Ultra Ankle JVA Watch List, the 2020 AVCA Under Armor All-American Watch List and the 2020 PrepDig Michigan Division I “Top Setters” List.

Penelope Hiepler | Libero/DS | 5-10 | Naperville, Ill.

2021 Varsity First Team All-County selection and three-time player of the game in 2021. 2020 Second Team All-County. Played for Metro Volleyball Club. Finished first at Ohio Valley Qualifier in 2022. Finished fifth at USAV Nationals in 2021.

Maeve Loughran | Sets | 6-0 | Los Angeles, Calif.

Named to All-CIF Team in 2021 as a senior. Played for Sunshine Volleyball Club. Named a Gold 18 USA and Gold 17 American.

Brittany Myers | Outside Hitter | 5-9 | Alexandria, Va. | Rhode Island

Appeared in 83 sets across 28 matches in first year with Rhode Island where she recorded 162 kills, with a career-high 16 vs. Saint Louis. Prior to Rhode Island, Meyers served as a team captain for Edison High School where she earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region honors as a senior. She was named District Player of the Year Runner-Up in 2019 and led Edison for a No. 1 ranking and undefeated season in the same year. She was selected to represent Virginia in the 2018 Down Under Sports Volleyball Team Tournament in Australia and played for Virginia Juniors Volleyball Club, Alamo and Metro Travel American.

Tierra Porter | Middle Blocker | 6-1 | Huntsville, Ala. | Florida Southern College

Played for four seasons at Florida Southern College and was named to the 2021 All-Conference Second Team for the Sunshine State Conference. Earned Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week in 2021 and 2018. Selected to the Rollins Invitational All-Tournament Team in 2021 and was named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Porter started all 27 matches for the Mocs as a senior and was second on the team in kills (230), led the team with a .327 hitting percentage, a mark good enough for eighth in the SSC. Porter earned All-County and All-Area MVP honors as a senior in high school and was named to the Alabama All-State Team in 2016. Porter was an Alabama 6A State Champion and selected to the North Alabama All-Region Team in 2016 and 2017. She played for Rocket City Volleyball.

Sydney Stewart | Middle Blocker | 6-1 | Philadelphia, Pa.

Second-place finisher at 2022 regionals and earned a bid to USAV Nationals and a third-place finisher at the 2021 NEQs. Stewart played for Jersey Juniors Volleyball Club and attended Friends’ Central School.
