Abilene Wylie knocks off Frisco Centennial, Plano West in tennis

PLANO – Wylie knocked off defending Class 6A champion Plano West 12-7 in a nondistrict dual tennis match here Friday.

Wylie, which edged Frisco Centennial 10-9 earlier in the day in Frisco, improved to 5-0 with the two victories. The Bulldogs beat Frisco Lebanon Trail 17-2 on Thursday in Frisco.

“To start the season 5-0 against the teams we have played this year is more than I could have even hoped for,” Wylie coach Mark Hathorn said. “The match against Centennial this morning was one of the best, most stressful but fun matches we have played in years. The kids were fired up.”

Grant Bristow won the 10th point for the match win with a 6-4, 7-6 (7), 10-7 victory at No. 5 boys singles for the Bulldogs, who were a Class 5A state finalist last year.
