Dominant Brenden “Butterbean” Queen sweeps twin 50-lap Late Model features at Langley Speedway – The Virginian-Pilot

Brenden Queen of Chesapeake, the track’s two-time defending champion points and current points leader, continued his dominance in Langley Speedway’s Late Model Division by winning twin 50-lap features Saturday night.

“Butterbean” led throughout the first race, earning the pole position and winning by 1,286 seconds over Justin S. Carroll. Greg Edwards, Casey Wyatt and Mark Wertz all followed within four seconds, completing the top five among the 17 competitors in a race that took more than 17 minutes.

In the encore, Queen wound up 1,030 seconds better than Danny Edwards. Carroll was third, Greg Edwards fourth and Ryan Matthews fifth in the field of 15 that took about 14 1/2 minutes to finish.

Champ Kart: David Phelps edged rookie John Snyder by 147-thousandths of a second to win a 20-lap race including 13 drivers, with third-place Dannie Wyatt 4.34 seconds off the lead.

Phelps began the night fourth in the standings, while Snyder was sixth and Wyatt second. Points leader Trace Wyatt placed fifth in a race that lasted more than seven minutes.

Super Trucks: Hunter Waltrip took about 11 1/2 minutes to overcome Chris Roberts by 1,325 seconds over 35 laps and extend his points lead. Ryan Huff was a distant third among nine drivers.

Super Street: Gordon Weeks won the opening 25-lap race by 0.667 of a second over Sammy Gaita, the runner-up. Third-place Jimmy Adkins was 934-thousandths off the lead in a race that lasted about 16 1/2 minutes.

Four drivers, including those three, began the night with four points separating them and Danny Harrell, who was leading the standings until finishing 13th among 14 drivers Saturday.

Another race was scheduled for later Saturday.

Pro Six: Points leader Travis Wall cruised to a 25-lap triumph in about 7 1/2 minutes, beating runner-up Chris Bechtel by 3.027 seconds. Donovan Edwards was third in the field of seven.

It was the fifth triumph of the year for Wall, who began the night ahead by two points over Edwards.

Chris Ferguson gained his second Ernie Shelton’s Virginia Is For Racing Lovers USA 100 victory, turning back runner-up Russell Erwin and third-place Gregg Satterlee over the last five laps.

Joey Polevoy earned a Modified victory, followed by runner-up Chase Butler and third-place Jeff Solinger.

Dustin Mitchell won the Big 500 2-Barrel East Coast National Championship race Friday at Dixieland Speedway, earning the $4,000 first prize, by leading all 40 laps on the dirt track in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Willie Milliken was the runner-up, while Robbie Emory placed third.

Brenden Queen, racing the night before two more Langley triumphs, was in second place until losing power with three laps to go.

Jay Perry won his second consecutive Sportsman race and third of the season. Sanders Overman was second and Roger Bell third.

Lance Gregory won the Stock Fours competition.

Michael Wells took the Super Street checkered flag in his first start of the year. Kolton Stevens was second and Holly Weiss third.

Dixieland, which has been plagued by rain this season, announced it will hold races Sept. 2 and Sept. 9.
