One Genshin Impact fan points out an interesting detail about the chess game that was played in the recently released Harbinger teaser.

Genshin Impact has recently released an interesting video revealing the appearance of all the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. They are legendary warriors who possess unnatural powers granted by their leader, the Cryo Archon Tsaritsa.

The video has quickly become a fan favorite as it finally revealed the faces that are behind the infamous Fatui organization. Genshin Impact‘s teaser videos are always filled with numerous Easter eggs and symbolism.

Reddit user GInDice has pointed out an interesting detail about the chess game that was presented in the video. The beginning of the Genshin Impact video shows Pierro playing chess and according to GInDice, the pieces on the board are aligned almost in the same exact way as in the legendary 1996 game between Gary Kasparov and Deep Blue, which was the first chess-playing expert system that managed to beat a chess world champion under regular time controls. The only difference between the two chess games is that the Queen and King pieces are apparently swapped.

Numerous fans claim that the pieces are not swapped and that Pierro is about to lose the game of chess, however, after the last move was played he states that “on this chessboard, checkmate is not where the game ends,” which could mean that they could be playing by different rules. There are a lot of fan-made theories about if and why HoYoverse made the decision to swap the pieces. This could also mean that Black is knowingly letting White think that it’s winning, but he knows that Kings are just a diversion and the Queens are the actual goal.

Most Genshin Impact fans claim that they were caught by surprise with the release of this teaser, especially since the arrival of a new major region is just around the corner. The teaser has become the most liked video on the official Genshin Impact YouTube channel which does not come as a surprise since the majority of the fan base were impressed with the unique character design as well as the mystique surrounding the video.

Another reason why there is a lot of hype around the Harbinger reveal is probably the fact that most of the characters shown in the video will become playable at some point in time. At the moment only one of them, Tartaglia, is part of the limited character roster. However, recently Genshin Impact leaks have been hinting that another Harbinger named Scaramouche, who is missing in the video, could receive his first banner in the coming months.

Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development with no confirmed release date.
