The West Texas A&M volleyball team added two new names to the roster ahead of the 2022 season.
Zahira Parker and Carly Evetts have joined the Lady Buffs volleyball team just in time for the start of the upcoming season. Parker is a transfer from Gonzaga, while Evetts transfers in from the Academy of Art in California.
It’s a homecoming for Evetts as she’s a native of Canyon and prepared at Canyon High School. She also had a stop at Odessa College prior to heading to California. She was named second team All-PacWest after playing in all 113 sets for the Urban Knights. Evetts led the team with 2.51 kills and .59 blocks per set.
Parker originally hails from Austin and makes the transition to WT as a freshman. She finished her high school career with 138 assists and 111 digs.

WT men’s soccer makes USC Poll
The first United Soccer Coaches Poll of the season has been released. The Buffs are the highest ranked team in the Lone Star Conference for the preseason at No. 17.
The only other LSC team in the initial poll is Midwestern State, who came in ranked No. 22.
WT is back after advancing to the Sweet 16 last year. Head coach Butch Lauffer is entering his 32nd season at the helm. The Buffs season will begin their season at home Aug. 25 against St. Mary’s.

WT women’s basketball unveils schedule
The Lady Buffs have announced their schedule for the upcoming season. They will play 31 matches in total, 14 of which will be played at home in the First United Bank Center.
The team made the NCAA Division II Elite Eight last year. They went 26-11 overall last season.
WT officially opens the season on November 5-6 as they take part in the D2CCA Tip Off Classic at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri with matchups against Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney. The Lady Buffs remain on the road for the South Central Regional Challenge in Rapid City, South Dakota, against South Dakota Mines (Nov. 11) and Colorado Mesa (Nov. 12) before hosting Southwestern Oklahoma State (Nov. 18) and Oklahoma Panhandle State (Nov. 26) in Canyon.Lone Star Conference action begins in December against UAFS (Dec. 1) and Oklahoma Christian (Dec. 3) before a road trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville (Dec. 8) and Texas A&M International ( December 10). The Lady Buffs will welcome Northern New Mexico to Canyon for exhibition action on Dec. 14 in a community game. WT heads to Tampa, Florida to take on Florida Tech (Dec. 18) and Tampa (Dec. 19) heading into the Christmas break. WT will host Midwestern State in LSC action on Dec. 30 to close out 2021. New Year’s Day will see the Lady Buffs host Cameron followed by a road trip to Angelo State (Jan. 5) and UT Permian Basin (Jan. 7). WT will be at home for the final time in January against Western New Mexico (Jan. 12) and Eastern New Mexico (Jan. 14) before heading out on a five-game road swing at Texas Woman’s (Jan. 19), UT Tyler (Jan. 21), Cameron (Jan. 26), Midwestern State (Jan. 28) and Lubbock Christian (Jan. 31). WT opens up the month with home contests against UT Permian Basin (Feb. 2) and Angelo State (Feb. 4) before hitting the road to take on Eastern New Mexico (Feb. 9) and Western New Mexico (Feb. 11). The Lady Buffs close out the regular season with three straight contests inside the FUBC against St. Mary’s (Feb. 16), St. Edward’s (Feb. 18) and Lubbock Christian (Feb. 23).
