JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team won’t have quite the same look once play begins on August 19th in Montana, but the power duo of Anna Holen and Kalli Hegerle return for one more season in orange and black.
Holen, who is currently second all-time in career digs in Jamestown history, said coming back for a fifth year was an easy decision for her to make.
Holen and Hegerle have been part of an incredible run for the Jimmies, going 98-9 overall in the last three seasons with three consecutive trips to the national semifinals. For both of them though, being a Jimmie is a whole lot more than just playing volleyball.
Fostering those relationships as a team has helped the Jimmies become more than just a powerhouse volleyball program.
While the 2022 season will see some new faces on the floor at Newman Arena, Hegerle says the talent level and hunger of this younger group should still allow them to have success.
Holen also talked about the Jimmies finding a way to peak at the right point of the season and how “crazy” it is that Sioux City has become a second home and the national championship expectations for the UJ volleyball program.
Jamestown opens the season in Butte, Montana with four matches in two days with the first match of the year against Eastern Oregon. The Jimmies will play 12 matches before coming home to Newman Arena for the first home match of the season on September 6th against Northwestern.
Tomorrow on our Jamestown 107.1 Fall Sports Preview, women’s volleyball head coach Jon Hegerle joins us talking about the last three seasons, expectations for his side in 2022, and the culture of Jimmie volleyball. Fall Sports Preview schedule for the rest of this week.
