Redbird Gymnastics Announces 2022 Meet Schedule


NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State gymnastics team is looking to build off a successful 2021 campaign with a competitive slate this season, as Redbird head coach Bob Conkling has announced 13 meets for the team’s 2022 schedule which is set to begin on Friday, January 7, at Missouri.

“We are really excited about our 2022 meet schedule,” Conkling stated. “I feel its well-balanced with teams from several strong conferences including the SEC, the Big Ten, the MAC, the MRGC and the MIC. We hope this is a great season for us that builds off the momentum from last year and we can ‘t wait to get started in January.”

The season opener at Missouri will also feature Ball State and Southeast Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. From there, the Redbirds will travel to Michigan State on January 15 to compete against the Spartans, as well as Bowling Green. ISU will then come home to host its first of three meets of the season inside Redbird Arena on January 21 against Eastern Michigan. The first month of competition will then conclude on January 30 at Ball State against the Cardinals and Central Michigan.

February will begin with a road meet at Bowling Green on February 5, before returning home to Redbird Arena to host in-state foe Northern Illinois on February 11. Two days later, the Redbirds will head north to DeKalb, Illinois, to return the favor and compete against the Huskies on their home mat. The annual GymQuarters Invitational in St. Charles, Missouri, will be next on February 18, where the Redbirds will compete alongside Lindenwood and Southeast Missouri. The Redbirds will stay in St. Charles for a couple days, before competing in a dual meet with Lindenwood on Sunday, February 20.

The month of February wraps up with a meet in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, against Southeast Missouri on February 26 before the Redbirds head to Provo, Utah, to take on BYU on Friday, March 4. The final regular season meet for ISU will take place on March 18 at Redbird Arena, when it hosts Southeast Missouri on Senior Night. Illinois State will then head to Denton, Texas, to compete in the MIC Championship hosted by Texas Women’s University on March 19, before the NCAA Regionals begin on March 31.
