Pembroke to host golf classic in memory of Cohasset’s PJ Trendowicz

This August will mark 20 years since the Cohasset community was shocked by the tragic death of Paul “PJ” Trendowicz.

Trendowicz, 18 years old at the time, died following a swimming accident in town during the summer ahead of his freshman year of college.

Although his life was cut short far too early, Trendowicz has lived on through a memorial foundation started in his honor.

Greg Smith, one of Paul’s best friends, has headed the foundation for a number of years, along with the annual golf tournament played in his memory.

The Annual PJT Memorial Golf Classic

For the past 16 years, Paul’s friends and family have gathered for a day of golf and remembrance. This year, the event is being held at Pembroke Country Club on Aug. 12; the day prior to the anniversary of Paul’s death.

Indicative of the man Paul was and the charity he inspired, Smith said when the tournament was first held, there was little thought of what the PJ Trendowicz Memorial Foundation would become.
