Women’s Hockey Unveils 2022-23 Schedule


SCHENECTADY, ​​NY – It’s the beginning of June but the Union College women’s hockey team is already looking forward to the new season. Head Coach Josh Sciba has announced the 2022-2023 women’s hockey schedule, which features 14 games at Messa Rink.

“We are really looking forward to the 2022-2023 season,” said Sciba. “This upcoming year has us playing many familiar opponents and with eight of the first 10 games on the road, we feel it’s great for the camaraderie of our group, we are looking forward to a very competitive schedule”

The Dutchwomen open the season on the road against Hockey East opponent the University of New Hampshire Wildcats, for a weekend series on September 23rd and 24th.

Union continues their road trip with a pair of games against Holy Cross the following weekend. These teams have not met since 2003, with Union winning the last meeting 4-1, in Schenectady.

Union will also take on Providence College and Boston University to round out their road trip, on October 7th and 8th.

The Dutchwomen’s home opener is October 21st against the RIT Tigers, they will play a two-game set. The Dutchwomen took on the Tigers last season to open the season, and beat the Tigers both times last season.

ECAC conference action kicks off the end of October when Union heads to the North Country and play Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

The first ECAC games on home ice are against Harvard and Dartmouth, Harvard was the 2021-22 ECAC Regular Season Champions. These games will take place on November 4 and 5. The Dutchwomen beat Dartmouth last season at home, by a final of 3-0.

The Dutchwomen then take on their rival the Engineers of RPI for a home at home series on November 11 and 12. RPI went 3-0 in three games against the Dutchwomen last season.

In December, Union plays six games, with the two home games being against Quinnipiac and Princeton. Union then hits the road to take on Brown and NCAA National Runner-Up Yale on the 9th and 10th. The Dutch women will end the 2022 calendar year on the road against Franklin Pierce. The Dutchwomen split with the Ravens last season.

In the new year the Dutchwomen play three home games of the eight scheduled in January, culminating with the Capital Districts Mayor’s Cup on January 28. Union fell 2-0 to the Engineers last year. St. Lawrence, Clarkson and Syracuse will all make trips to Messa Rink in January. Syracuse will come to Schenectady for the first time since 2019.

Union will play four of their six games on home ice in the month of February, while ending the season with a home series against ECAC Tournament Champions Colgate and Cornell. Senior Day will be against the Big Red.

Some notable games to watch include the home series against RIT, with the Dutchwomen sweeping them to start the season this past year. The Big Green of Dartmouth College were another team the Dutchwomen swept as well. Union plays host to the NCAA National Runner-Up Yale on February 3.

The schedule includes matchups against six teams that made appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
