Cris Cyborg is considered a true pioneer in women’s MMA. A multi-time champion, Cyborg is ready to take on a new venture. Cyborg enters the boxing ring for the first time when she faces Simone Silva on Sept. 25.
The fight will take place inside Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil.
Cyborg, a two-time World Jiu-Jitsu Championship gold medalist, made her pro-MMA debut in 2005. Cyborg has won featherweight gold with Strikeforce, Invicta FC, the UFC, and Bellator. She is currently on a six-fight win streak, having won the Bellator featherweight title in 2020 against Julia Budd.
Cyborg has defended the Bellator title four times. Her last bout was a unanimous decision win in April over Arlene Blencowe. She has been waiting for her moment to enter a boxing ring for quite some time.
“Everybody has to do something really uncomfortable,” Cyborg told The Wrestling Observer. “You cannot just sit down on the bed and sit on the couch and think about having a dream. You have to go, you have to get it….your dream.”

Silva (17-21) made her pro debut in 2013. An MMA and boxing star, she has lost eight boxing fights in a row (11 total losses in a row), including a bout against Amanda Serrano. Silva lost her last bout in August against Jessica Camara via knockout. She recently was issued a 60-day medical suspension by the Texas Combative Sports Program following that fight. The commission released a statement when it was announced Silva would be taking a fight in Brazil within the 60-day suspension.
“Some countries honor TDLR and ABC medical suspensions and others don’t,” the statement read. “The safety of the fighters is our greatest concern, and if Da Silva returns to Texas for a fight, we will likely require that she undergo EEG and EKG testing to ensure she is able to compete safely.”
