Volleyball: BE defeats Pelican Rapids and Benson – Alexandria Echo Press

EVANSVILLE – The Brandon-Evansville volleyball teams earned a pair of victories on Saturday, Sept. 17, at home over the Pelican Rapids Vikings (4-7) and the Benson Braves (3-9) to improve to 6-5 on the season.

BE won both matches 3-1. BE started the day with a win (25-23, 13-25, 26-24, 25-22) over Pelican Rapids.

“With Pelican Rapids coming in with the same record as us, we knew the match was going to be close,” BE head coach Kelly Olson said. “Pelican Rapids beat us in almost every facet of the game except the serving game. They hit better than we did. They had more digs and assists than us. In the field we hold the advantage in the receiving game and the passing game. The girls did a good job of being efficient. Their ability to capitalize on the opportunities given to us let us win the match.”

The Chargers won all three of their sets by three points or less. The match between the Chargers and the Braves was the final one on the day, and both teams had defeated Pelican Rapids.

BE won sets one and two convincingly, but Benson won set three to keep the match alive. BE won the fourth set, 25-23, to win the match 3-1.

“Against Benson, we had a bit more offense,” Olson said. “We again took advantage of free ball opportunities and capitalized on those. Another competitive match pushed our team to play outside their comfort zone. Coming out with another win helped our confidence going into next week.”

Kylee Dingwall led the attack for the Chargers as she averaged 9.5 kills in the two matches. Courtney Brethorst averaged 32.5 assists.

Taylor Suchy averaged 26 digs for the Chargers.

The Chargers host the undefeated Henning Hornets (8-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 pm Henning is the fifth-ranked team in the Class A QRF rankings on Minnesota-scores.net.
