Suresh Raina Turns Into Superman, Pulls Off Blinder Putting Current Indian Stars To Shame

At a time when Team India’s fielding has come under scrutiny, Suresh Raina’s acrobatic effort during a Road Safety World Series 2022 match put his former teammates to shame.

Raina took a screamer in the semi-final to dismiss Australia Legends batter Ben Dunk, who was looking dangerous, having scored 46 off 26 balls.

Fielding at his usual position at a backward point, the former CSK started with his full-length dive to perfection and plucked the ball from thin air.

Two years after announcing his international retirement, the southpaw retired from all forms of cricket earlier this month and it was his first participation in the league which features retired legends from across the globe.

Since the majority of former cricketers playing in the league were not in the best shape, people assumed that the fielding standard wouldn’t be great.

But when you have an athlete like Raina in your lineup, no catch is out of reach. He might have called time on his career from all forms of cricket but, with this mind-boggling effort, he proved why Jonty Rhodes rated him as the best fielder in the world.

Forget retired players, there are not many active cricketers who could have pulled off that catch with such ease. Perhaps Dunk, who was hitting boundaries for fun, undermined Raina’s fielding prowess when he hit that ball in the air.

Given the width on offer, the ball deserved to be hit but Dunk forgot that the fielder at the backward point was the best in the business, even today.

Rather than hitting it away from the fielder, he focused on smashing it with brute force and this mistake led to his departure.

The fans on social media were in complete disbelief when they saw the 35-year-old showing such great commitment and pulling off one of the best catches of recent times.

Watching his athleticism, the fans were convinced that he was the greatest fielder to have played for the Indian team.

Mocking the current Indian players, who have faced a lot of criticism in recent times for dropping simple catches and lackluster fielding efforts, some supporters urged the BCCI to utilize his skills and bring him on board as India’s fielding coach.
