Davis to lead ETBU cheer, acrobatics and tumbling | Sports

A new athletic year brings a change in the ETBU athletic department with a transition in Cheerleading and Acrobatics and Tumbling.

Ashton Davis has been hired to lead both programs following the departure of Farrah Dunaway as her family moves to Central Texas.

“We are delighted to welcome Coach Ashton Davis to the ETBU family as the new Head Coach for the Tiger Cheer and Acrobatics and Tumbling teams. Ashton was someone we identified and sought out to follow Coach Dunaway. Her passion and love for developing student-athletes in a Christ-centered program were evident throughout the process. Coach Davis’ dedication to excellence and using athletics to minister to her student-athletes is the perfect fit for ETBU and Tiger Athletics. Ashton possesses the qualities needed to continue to build upon the foundation for the ETBU Cheer and Acrobatics and Tumbling programs and we are excited for Coach Davis to lead the program in the years to come,” Vice President for Student Engagement and Athletics Ryan Erwin said.

Davis is no stranger to competition as a coach guiding three programs in cheer and competitive cheer at the NCAA Division II level. From 2018 through 2021 she was the head cheer coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville and the assistant competitive cheer coach at Gannon University (Pa.) from 2015 to 2017. Her coaching career started in 2014 as a graduate assistant cheer coach for Cameron University (Okla. .).

“I am grateful to Dr. Blackburn and Ryan Erwin to be joining the Tiger family. I look forward to the opportunity to lead and invest in my athletes through the amazing Christ-centered culture at ETBU. Both programs have a strong foundation with lots of potential, and I am excited to see what the future holds for each of them,” says Davis.

Her time at Gannon University brought national accolades to the program placing twice in the top five. The 2016 season led to a fifth-place finish at the NCA Cheerleading Nationals (Division II) while receiving both a fourth and fifth place finish in 2017.

Outside of athletics, she has taught in both the Hallsville School District and the Rockport Fulton School District. She was the Employee of the Month for Hallsville during the 2021-22 year and the Teach of the Year in 2020-21 at Rockport Fulton Middle School.

She is a 2014 graduate from Texas Tech University earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and attends First Baptist Church in Hallsville.
